Analysis of fringes from radial shear interferometers

Radial shear interferogram

A TTL trigger input enables Fringe Master to acquire single frame images in synchronisation with external events.

The fringe pattern shown here was obtained using a radial shear interferometer in conjunction with a high power Nd:glass laser. With a shot repetition rate of one full energy pulse per hour, it was essential to capture the correct image frame reliably. Fringe Master software has internal synchronisation which can be programmed by the user to ensure that the correct image is captured.

Subsequent analysis of the fringe pattern using Fringe Master enables the quality of the wavefront to be determined.

In this application, the radial shear interferometer was used as a diagnostic to quantify the performance of an experimental adaptive optics system.
